DISSERTATION

"Dickens and The Uncommercial Traveller"
Director: John J. Fenstermaker

Through a study of The Uncommercial Traveller, the dissertation shows Dickens as a
matured essayist, traces the relationship of the essay series to his novels,and reveals his
attitude toward himself and his times during the last decade of his life.

MASTER'S THESIS

"Keats's Divided Consciousness"
Director: Kenneth W. Davis

Focusing upon the letters and poetry, especially those pieces written immediately preceding,
during, and after the Scottish walking tour of 1818, the study explores Keats's struggle with
the duality of human nature.

Courses taught have included developmental English, the freshman composition and literature
sequence, the sophomore British literature survey sequence, an introduction to Shakespeare,
the first-year Spanish language sequence, and a late-Victorian novels course.

For the freshman sequence, I have designed and taught on-line versions of Freshman
Composition I and Freshman Composition II, and I have taught a telecourse version
of Freshman Composition II for seven years. I have also designed and taught an online
version of the second half of the sophomore British survey (1798-roughly the end of
World War I).
