Lessons

This is the access point from the Class Center. However, each of the weekly lessons indicated on the Syllabus by the icon is linked directly to the appropriate page. You may access the lessons either way.

The Discussion Forum will be the source of most of the "lessons" for this class. However, I have included here those things that you need to get started.

FICTION
For the sake of discussion, we will look at character, conflict, setting, and language separately. However, when you analyze any piece of literature, you will need to consider all of these. Our intial focus is on fiction, but much that we will cover relates to poetry and drama as well.

POETRY
You will also find a brief introduction to the sonnet and a discussion of scansion which will be useful when we get to the second unit.

DRAMA
There is an overview of Greek drama and a brief history of the development of English drama. For a plot summary of Hamlet, click here.
